Introducing our River Oaks II project: a spec home collaboration with the @fiftyseventhandseventh build team in the heart of River Oaks. Over the next few weeks, we will highlight a few of our favorite spaces from this English inspired home. First up is the kitchen. Plentiful storage lines the perimeter of the room by way of custom inset cabinetry painted a soft warm white and topped with a classic Calacatta marble countertop. Unlacquered brass hardware and plumbing adds warmth and will continue to add character as it patinas over time. We love the celebration of texture throughout our Memorial new construction project. Embracing natural textures and materials enhances the architecture, adding visual and tactile dimension, and in turn, loads of character. A few ideas to save for future inspiration: -Plaster treatments on walls and ceilings. We used a matte finish plaster in the entry hall, a dimensional fluted plaster in the bar, and a @portolapaints Roman Clay in the powder bath. Each variety has its own character, but complement the overall design. -Natural stone. The limestone and marble tonal checkerboard in the entry hall is a standout feature in this home. The sky is the limit with pattern layouts, finishes, and stone combinations. Stone countertops and a reclaimed antique stone sink are other elements we love in this home. -Reclaimed wood. @eldoradowoodworks crafted custom doors and beams using reclaimed antique oak. The graining and distressing are a treat for the eyes and adds instant character and warmth. For this Royden Oaks home, we chose an overall darker palette, with the charcoal antique brick as the star of the exterior facade. Evoking an escape to the English countryside on a mild afternoon, the finishes for this River Oaks home have depth, character, and patina, but the overall house is effortlessly fresh, bright, and inviting. When creating this home’s materials palette, we imagined this homeowner is a bit of an old soul - brews their own tea using loose leaves from their travels, uses a french press, collects oil paintings, has an interest in vintage cars, watches formula one racing every Sunday before hosting book club, frequents the farmers market with their sheepdog and swears by a capsule wardrobe. A beautifully dramatic marble slab was the launching point for the design of this kitchen and truly sets the tone. Book matched along the range wall backsplash and used in a modified waterfall detail on the island, this stone is the star of the show. From the veining, we pulled a soft complimentary white for the paint color on the custom cabinets, a mid tone warm gray for the plaster vent hood, and a darker shade of gray for the island. We rounded out the kitchen with classic @subzeroandwolf appliances, sleek @brizofaucet plumbing, and two different custom profile cabinet doors to yield a stunning end product.
